Atlantis Equity Statement

Atlantis Community, Inc. is committed to building equity and disrupting all forms of racism and ableism from the systems level down to individual relationships. We commit to doing this by:

  • Acknowledging that as an organization and as individuals, we are susceptible to creating systems that maintain and perpetuate white supremacy in our programs, policies, and actions
  • Remaining open to feedback about ways we are engaging and/or missing aspects of this work and using that feedback to inform active change
  • Proactively identifying and addressing systems of oppression within and outside of our organization by working to disrupt and dismantle these systems through advocacy, action, and supporting our community in showing up to create change within every level of government
  • Welcoming and encouraging ongoing open dialogue and valuing the intersectional lens we gain when we call in every member of our community to support each other in this work
  • Continuing to exhaust all community based solutions whenever possible before calling law enforcement because we know that police interactions with Black, indegenous, and people of color especially with disabilities have an increased potential of reactionary and violent actions by the police
  • Continuing our individual and organizational education and training in the realm of equity and justice
  • Maintaining, unequivocally, that Black Lives Matter
  • Understanding, acknowledging, and actively disrupting our implicit biases
  • Respecting everyone’s individual identity and how they ask us to acknowledge and honor that identity through language, accommodations, and other requests

We believe that Atlantis can and has been a catalyst for change within and outside of the disability community. We take both our history and our responsibility to continue fighting for justice seriously, and hold ourselves accountable to not stopping the fight until everyone has the access they need to thrive.
